The
USA government will be enforcing changes to
its visa waiver programme from 12 January 2009.
This means that all travellers will be required
to apply for authorisation to travel either
at the time of booking or if already booked,
at least 72 hours before departing to the US.
Authorisation
is done electronically through ESTA (electronic
system for travel authorisation). The process
takes up to 20 minutes and authorisation is
normally granted immediately. Once granted,
authorisation is valid for two years. Until
further notice travellers still need to complete
the green non-immigrant visa waiver form onboard
the flight.
The
traveller must apply for authorisation online
at: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov.
Failure to apply for authorisation will result
in you not being able to travel. For data protection
reasons, applications have to be made personally
by the person travelling.

Lufthansa
has now launched its Mobile Boarding Pass
to passengers departing the UK. You can
now receive a boarding pass to your mobile
phone meaning that you can by pass check-in
altogether. Scanners are now in place
at airports which read Mobile Boarding
Cards from your mobile phone.
|
|
|
The
facility can be accessed by entering mobile.lufthansa.com
in the web browser on your mobile phone.
You then enter your 6 digit booking reference
number and name fields as per your TMG
booking confirmation. You can then select
your seats and select the Mobile Boarding
Pass to be either emailed to your mobile
phone or have it sent by SMS-Link. You
will then receive details on how to access
your boarding pass. Mobile check-in is
available from 23 hours before departure
and must be completed at the very latest
30 minutes before departure.
All
the information necessary for your flight
will be on the Mobile Boarding Pass so,
if you are travelling with hand luggage
only, you can proceed directly to your
departure gate or if you have baggage
this can be checked in easily at a baggage
drop-off counter with your Mobile Boarding
Pass. Please note only internet enabled
mobile phones can be used for this service.
